Movement disorders are a diverse and challenging group of neurological conditions. Geriatricians and allied health professionals play a key role in the care of patients living with these disorders. The Older Person Whisperer's take on coping and responsibility when looking after a person with Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson's Disease is one of the commonest neurological conditions to affect older people. It is a frequent cause of falls, fractures, and hospital admission. As such, it is a costly disease, especially in the later stages.
Formerly known as the Parkinson's Disease Section, this SIG now covers Multiple System Atrophy, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Corticobasal Degeneration, Essential Tremor, Dystonia and other related disorders. It is also under auspices of this SIG, that the increasingly popular Parkinson's Masterclasses are held. It also offers annual essay prizes - open to students of medicine, nursing and therapy.
The BGS Movement Disorders SIG runs an essay competition, open to medical, nursing and therapy students. Closing date for entries is 31 May 2020.

As I write this, we are in the grip of a pandemic lockdown. My clinic-room appointments have been postponed and home visits have been restricted. Of course, I am concerned for the people on my caseload, most are whom are self-isolating or strictly social distancing.
