Our new research published in Age and Ageing has established that most people living with dementia and mild cognitive impairment and their caregivers are willing to have one of their medications deprescribed (78.5%).

Age and Ageing is the journal of the British Geriatrics Society and is currently the highest-ranked Geriatrics and Gerontology journal, with a with a Journal Impact Factor™ of 12.782 in 2022 (Journal Citation Reports, Clarivate, 2022). Age and Ageing is constantly seeking new clinicians and academics from a wide range of backgrounds to peer-review for the journal, in order to ensure the publication of rigorous scientific research of clinical relevance to the practice of geriatric medicine. 

Our new research published in Age and Ageing reveals the complexities of making anticipatory medications available for people nearing the end of life at home. Patients, informal carers and health professionals interviewed for the research said their presence could cause distress as well as comfort.

Multiple hospital organisational factors are associated with adverse patient outcomes post hip fracture in England and Wales: the REDUCE record-linkage cohort study.

New research from King’s College London found that people living with dementia experience higher levels of unplanned hospital admissions towards the end of life compared with the period immediately following their dementia diagnosis. The study found that 40% of all unplanned hospital admissions after a diagnosis of dementia took place in the last year of life.

Current urinary incontinence (UI) guidelines often mention older adults with frailty but the detail and nuance of continence care for this group are not often well described. Supporting older people with urinary incontinence takes time and can be resource-intensive.

Some people fall, some don’t. Some people are afraid of this event, some are not. Of course, no one is afraid of falling when sitting on a bench or lying on a sofa, but maybe they are when attempting to get there. 

One in two people in the UK will develop cancer in their lifetime, and as cancer incidence rises with age, a significant number of cancer patients will have pre-existing dementia.
