Claire Dow

Claire Dow (she / her): Claire is a Consultant Geriatrician working at Whipps Cross University Hospital in East London (part of Barts Health NHS Trust). She is Divisional Director for Medicine at Whipps Cross and chairs the Executive Board of the Academic Centre for Healthy Ageing based at the hospital. Having undertaken all her postgraduate training in inner city London she has learnt how the intersections between race, gender, sexuality, and ageing can have a negative impact on older adults and how frailty in the most deprived populations can be accelerated. The impact of the COVID 19 pandemic on the communities in East London and the local Black Lives Matters campaigns showed Claire that she needed to use her position of privilege to stand up for others who face more barriers than her and ensure care provided for older adults is equitable for all.
