A paramedic with 15 years of experience as an advanced paramedic/student I have worked in primary care for 4 ½ years for a large PCN, progressing from visiting paramedic after 14 months to my current role as clinical lead for Enhancing Health in Care Homes (EHCH). Passionate about older persons' care and palliative medicine after following my brother on his end-of-life journey I look to the BGS for current information regularly. I am also the Ambassador for Herefordshire and Worcestershire for First Contact Practitioners for Taurus Healthcare our local training hub assisting fellow AHPs.
In my EHCH role, I facilitate regular meetings with GPs, AHPs and the wider MDT community/care homes. Completing the Mary Seacole Programme has enhanced my leadership skills and helped me understand the theory of leadership which has empowered me to provide an even better service to our cohort of patients and enhance the EHCH services we provide. Through strong leadership staff are empowered to provide high-quality care for those living in care homes and by trailblazing EHCH principles I hope to continue to embed them in normal practice for this vulnerable group of patients. I seek to encourage care home staff to act as advocates for their residents whilst being facilitators of care. The EHCH work is ongoing we and we aim to meet both local and strategic objectives and improving clinical quality.
I feel acting as deputy chair for the BGS would allow me to influence the care of the elderly on a wider platform and act as an advocate for this cohort of often missed patients.
