Dr Marsali Anderson

Scottish Trainees Representative
Role on the Council
To represent Scottish trainees at the BGS Scotland and national BGS councils.

Meetings
Scottish BGS council meetings, Scottish trainees meeting, national trainees council meetings.

I am currently an ST7 in Geriatric medicine with a specialist interest in Movement Disorder.

My experience of Geriatric medicine training is that it is dynamic and far reaching. With the increasing demand on our specialty and our ability to improve the care of older adults, it is imperative that our trainees have a voice in shaping the future development of our skills and training within geriatric medicine and how best to deliver this care to benefit our patients.

The BGS aligns itself closely with our training and frequently provides high standards of learning events to continue our professional development as well as providing additional resources and support.

It provides opportunities to make connections with other professionals within our specialty to improve patient care.

I wish to be a voice for Scottish trainees to ensure we continue to maintain training of a high quality, the opportunity to develop skills including their sub specialty and have access to current research involvement. By being part of this council means I can achieve this by presenting these views to a national arena. Additionally, it provides the opportunity to mutually share successful practices that can help develop and improve services and patient care.

Trainees are the next generation of specialists and it is important that we learn from those who have carved the path before us from their wealth of experiential knowledge. It is vital that we help to shape our future care models by engaging with policymakers and maintaining our high standard of training for those interested in a future career in geriatric medicine to deliver consistent high-quality care to those we serve.
