Role on the Council
Represent trainees views and concerns about training to JRCPTB and BGS. To disseminate relevant information on education and training.
Meetings:
Trainees council meetings, Specialist Advisory Committee for Geriatrics (JRCPTB) and Education and Training Committee (BGS)
Reason for joining the BGS Trainees’ Council
The main drive for me to join this committee is to ensure that the trainees are represented during discussions of their education and training. There is going to be significant changes to medical training in the next 5 years as Shape of training comes into effect. The curriculum for Geriatric training is currently being rewritten and trainees need to be involved to ensure fair, high quality training in the future. I am passionate about ensuring that the next generation of geriatricians can enjoy the same level of training that I have been fortunate enough to receive.
Why should trainees should get involved with the committee?:
It is fascinating to see what is involved in curriculum development and to see the effort that goes into ensuring high quality equitable training. This is a brilliant opportunity to get involved with the new developments in training on a national level. This has certainly given me a new appreciation of training. We all have a responsibility to ensure trainees voices are heard at these meetings and being a member of the committee is a fantastic way to influence changed to geriatric training for the better.
