08 March 2018 The incidence of under nutrition among patients admitted to hospitals in UK is around 28% and is 25% greater in older subjects [1]. Because those with under nutrition have longer lengths of stay, the corresponding prevalence is nearer 40% [2]. In care homes, 30% of residents were found to be undernourished [1]. Under nutrition is poorly detected by nursing and medical staff [2].
