Dr Anirudh Kumar
I am Ani, an ST4 Geriatric Medicine Registrar based in the East Midlands. I graduated from the University of Leicester in 2016, and undertook my postgraduate training in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. I utilised time as a trust grade registrar to develop an interest in medical education, contributing to undergraduate teaching and postgraduate simulation courses, and completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education with the University of Dundee.
Role on the BGS Trainees' Council
Alongside Victoria O’Brien, I am an Education and Training Representative on Trainees Council. We sit on the JRCPTB Specialist Advisory Committees (SAC) and the BGS Education Training Committee (ETC) to provide trainee updates on education and training. Our primary responsibility is to listen to and represent trainees’ voices, particularly in light of the recent change to the geriatric medicine curriculum and introduction of Internal Medicine Stage 2 Training.
Reason for joining the BGS Trainees Council
I am very happy to have been elected to this position, allowing me to funnel through my passion for medical education to geriatric medicine. A rough plan for my term is as below:
- Ongoing support and representation of trainees with rollout and transition to new curriculum and current impact of Covid-19 pandemic on training
- Developing resources and strategy to improve strategy in study leave availability across deaneries
- Continuing work with existing team on annual Quality Improvement workshops for medical students
Fun fact
I have met four former Formula One drivers on my travels to various racing events across the country!
