Opportunity for healthcare professionals working with older people to apply for the Diploma in Geriatric Medicine
Have you considered taking the Diploma in Geriatric Medicine Examination (DGM)? The DGM is an exam for healthcare professionals who want to demonstrate interest, knowledge and clinical expertise in care for older people.
Applications for the next written exam open on 6 January 2025 and close on 19 January 2025. The written exam takes place online on 26 February. If you pass that stage, you can go on to apply for the clinical exam. This is held in Liverpool on dates in June and November 2025.
The Diploma is run by the Royal College of Physicians of London and the British Geriatrics Society. It is designed for a wide range of professionals who work in older people’s healthcare, including:
- GPs
- Psychiatrists
- Doctors undergoing specialty training
- Nurses
- Allied health professionals
- Pharmacists
If you're a member of the multidisciplinary team involved in caring for older people and want to demonstrate your knowledge, skills and understanding of managing frailty and the chronic conditions experienced by older people, the DGM provides a recognised, well-regarded award.
You might be working in community, primary or secondary care. You will have had at least two years’ post-qualification experience, at least four months of which will be in a setting where you have interacted with a large number of older people.
As the Diploma requires self-guided study, now is the time to consider whether it is the qualification for you.
