Editorial Fellow, Age and Ageing journal

Applications are invited for a two-year fellowship attached to Age and Ageing journal. Closing date: 2nd June.

Background

Age and Ageing is the journal of the British Geriatrics Society and is a high-impact international clinical journal publishing monthly online issues and occasional supplements and collections. The Editorial Board has developed this editorial fellowship to enable trainees in geriatric medicine, or other clinical professions with a focus on older adults, who are also interested in academic publishing and research to gain experience of the editorial process.

Outline of role

The Fellow’s role will include involvement in general Journal business including handling article submissions (under the supervision of the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor, or Senior Editor or Associate Editor). The Fellow will be expected to write at least one editorial (with supervision) and to participate in some original research on the editorial process. The Fellow will also:

  1. Attend Editorial Board meetings as a non-voting member

  1. Attend at least one Committee on Publication Ethics forum/meeting

  1. Attend BGS Autumn meetings, and assist in the review of posters and abstracts as required.

  1. Contribute to the journal’s social media presence

  1. Compile a brief report (with their supervising Associate Editor/the Editor in Chief) at the end of the Fellowship, to be submitted to the Editorial Board.

The Fellow will learn about manuscript preparation, peer review, manuscript editing and journal production. The appointment will run concurrently with the Fellow’s usual training programme, or period out of programme for research.

The Fellow will be answerable to and supervised by a designated Associate Editor and thence the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board.

Following interview, the Board may chose one or more than one Fellow, who will work together.

There will be no payment or honorarium but registration fees and reasonable travel expenses to attend the above meetings will be met, according to usual BGS policy. While the position is for two years in the first instance, there will be an option to extend to three years to allow for completion of a more substantia project.
