Dr Irfana Musa
My name is Irfana and I am delighted to have been appointed to the role of Chair of the Trent British Geriatrics Society. The role of chair provides an excellent opportunity to apply my skills and experience of working in the specialty to help support health professionals in the Trent region towards enhancing care for older people. After completing my registrar training, I was appointed as a Consultant Orthogeriatrician at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust in 2014. During my consultant post, I have had considerable involvement in a number of quality initiatives including improving delirium recognition in patients across the trust and developing local guidelines in osteoporosis with colleagues. I play an active role in the clinical supervision and teaching of medical students, advanced nurse practitioners and the wider MDT and hope to use these relationships to promote the work of the BGS and encourage engagement with those with an interest in improving care for older people.
Objectives for term of office
I’m hoping we can improve networking across the region to create a supportive and collaborative local environment for all healthcare professionals specialising in the care of older people.
Term of Office: 3 years
Date of next re-election to this role: February 2023
