Vacancies: BGS Finance Committee
The Society is seeking additional volunteers to join our Finance Committee. This is a great opportunity to become involved in a key BGS committee and to help shape the Society’s financial future and sustainability.
Are you interested in:
learning what it takes to maintain charitable status and the basics of corporate finance and good governance;
helping to oversee and shape BGS financial and governance strategy and policies;
being part of a committee, recommending key financial and governance decisions to the BGS Trustee Board?
Do you want to acquire transferrable financial and governance skills you could use in decision-making processes within your hospital or workplace?
Extensive experience of finance or budgets is not necessary. We’re looking for someone who has an interest in how resources are managed, and the ability to think in a strategic way, asking probing questions of the executive team. We encourage multidisciplinary members of the Society to apply. The BGS has an experienced Finance Director and finance team, who will provide an accessible induction for all new committee members.
Members serve for two years. The Finance committee meets four times a year (currently virtually) and is chaired by the BGS Honorary Treasurer. Each meeting lasts around two hours and committee members need to allow some time beforehand to review papers, which cover financial matters, HR, IT infrastructure and other governance issues
Like the sound of this? Apply to join our Finance Committee by emailing Mark Stewart, Office and Business Manager, at M [dot] Stewart [at] bgs [dot] org [dot] uk by 30 May 2024 giving a very brief description of why you are interested in becoming a committee member.
If you would like to have an informal chat about the role beforehand our CEO, Sarah Mistry, will be very pleased to speak with you and answer any questions. Sarah can be contacted via email at S [dot] Mistry [at] bgs [dot] org [dot] uk
