BGS Autumn Meeting: Benefits of attending in person
Have you ever wondered about the value of attending a BGS event in person compared to online?
Many of our BGS events take place in a hybrid format, both in person and online. This provides flexible attendance options, as we are aware that there are circumstances which can make in person attendance difficult. Where possible though, we encourage delegates to join us in person to get the most out of the experience.
Not only are there the learning opportunities of hearing presentations on core areas of the geriatric medicine curriculum, latest research and best practices in older people’s healthcare, but in person attendance also provides the chance to network with colleagues and take part in our social programme.
Alongside the educational purpose of our meetings, they are also there for your wellbeing, to allow you to take a break from day-to-day work, refocus and connect with colleagues.
Take a look at why some of our BGS members attend events in person:
Dr Jennifer Stevenson
“I’ve met lots of colleagues and we’ve been able to share good practice and generate some research ideas.”
Dr Divya Tiwari
“I have always used events as an opportunity to attend in person and to network, which helps to grow your career, and is also good for your personal wellbeing.”
Dr Vikky Morris
“I love coming to the conferences and seeing people. I’ve just seen someone that I haven’t seen in 20 years, and it’s been brilliant. It’s also nice to meet people who are presenting from different specialties.”
Dr Ashwin Venkatesh
“These kinds of meetings can really help to bring people together, really dig into the issues.”
Dr Grace Pearson
“The chance to decompress from work, connect with colleagues that you don’t see on a daily basis.”
Dr Ellen Tullo
"Whenever I come to BGS, I just have fascinating conversations about work, about academic stuff, about medical education, and basically really enjoy myself."
