Advanced Clinical Training Fellowship in Parkinson’s 2025

Applications are invited from Specialist Trainees in Geriatric Medicine (ST5 and above), and SAS doctors with equivalent experience, who wish to undertake advanced clinical training in Parkinson’s and related Parkinsonian conditions, at a UK centre and who anticipate pursuing a career in Parkinson’s and related Parkinsonian conditions. These fellowships are innovative posts generously funded by Parkinson’s UK, open to current BGS members.

Awards are made for one year's full-time training or spread over a longer period for those applying for a less than full time Fellowship. The start date will be set at the choice of the successful candidate, but it is anticipated that it will be between August and December 2025.

Applications from doctors wishing to undertake a fellowship on a less than full time basis are welcome.

The candidates should:
  • Be a current BGS member.
  • Hold full MRCP(UK).
  • Have support for their application from their TPD (if in a training post).
  • In advance of the application, approach a named clinical UK Parkinsons supervisor of their choice, to prepare their application, stating their personal development needs in Parkinsons and related Parkinsonian conditions and the UK hospital(s) of their choice at which they wish to work
  • Complete the Host Application Template and Training Plan (see downloadable form on this page).
  • State clearly the topics that they wish to cover in an Advanced Clinical Parkinsons Fellowship, which should be over and above standard training experience. It is expected that the Parkinsons training should have both breadth and depth, but the fellowship can be flexible to allow an individual to develop specific relevant clinical skills (e.g. in palliative care, neuropsychiatry, advanced therapies, Botox).
  • Provide a CV (no longer than 4 pages), and a (max 1000 word) personal statement outlining how an Advanced Clinical Training Fellowship in Parkinsons will support their professional development and future plans.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to formal interview (to be held online). Successful candidates will be notified shortly thereafter. After successful completion of the post, the BGS will provide a certificate confirming achievement of an Advanced Clinical Training Fellowship in Parkinson’s.
